Question

A molecule of a substance has a permanent electric dipole moment of magnitude 1030 cm. Solution

The correct option is A -3 J
Dipole moment of each molecule =1030 Cm
1 mole of the substance contains 6×1023 molecules,
Total dipole moment of all the molecules, p=6×1023×1030=6×107 Cm
E=107

Initial potential energy, Ui=pEcosθ=6×107×107cos0o=6 J

Final potential energy, Uf=6×107×107×cos30o=3 J

Work done= (Change in Potential energy)=[(3)(6)]=3 J

So, correct option is (C)
