A mother is $24$ years older that her son. After $4$ years, the age of mother will be three times the age of son. Find the present ages of mother and son.

Let present age of the son is $x$ years and that of the mother is $x+24$ years.

After $4$ years the age of son will be $x+4$ years and that of the mother will be $x+28$ years.

According the problem,

$(x+28)=3(x+4)$

or, $2x=16$

or, $x=8$.

So present age of the son is $8$ years and the mother is $32$ years.
