A motor boat covers a certain distance downstream in a river in 5 hours. It covers the same distance upstream in 5 hours. Find the speed of the boat in still water the speed of stream is 1. 5 kmph.

Let the speed of the boat in still water =xkm/hrxkm/hr Speed of the boat downstream=(x+1.5)km/hr Time taken to cover the distance = 5 hrs Distance covered in 5 hrs=(x+1.5)×5 Speed of the boat up stream=(x-1.5) for 5 hrs=5(x-1.5) so speet in still is.. (x+1.5)×5=5(x-1.5) so x=1.5kmph
