A motorcycle is moving with speed 20 m/s on the road. The M.O.I of wheel about its axis of rotation is 2 kg m2 and radius of its wheel is 0.5 m. Motorcycle comes to rest in 10 sec after applying the breaks. Find the magnitude of the average torque transmitted by its brakes to the wheel?

The correct option is A 8 kg m2/s2
Given velocity of motorcycle, v=20 m/s
So, initial angular velocity wo=vr=200.5
wo=40 rad/sec
Now, w=w0+αt
Final angular velocity w=0 as motorcycle comes in rest in 10 sec.
0=40+α(10) (given t=10 sec)
α=4 rad/sec
The magnitude of average torque,
|τ|=I|α|=2×4=8 kg m2/s2
|τ|=8 kg m2/s2
