a) No gas is formed when sodium hydroxide solution react with excess ferric chloride solution.

b) When sodium hydroxide solution is added to ferric chloride solution, a reddish brown precipitate is formed.

  • This is due to the formation of ferric hydroxide.
  • FeCl3(aq)+ 3 NaOH(aq)Fe(OH)3(s) +3NaCl(aq)
  • When excess reagent is added it does not change.
