Question

a new unit of lenght is selected in such a way that the speed of lght in vacuum is unity. calculate the distance between sun and earth in this new unite of time if light from sun takes 500 sec to reach the earth

Solution

Given that: The speed of light in vacuum is unity
To find: We want to find the distance between the sun                       and the earth
Using formula,
Distance = Speed x Time
Speed of light in vacuum = 1unit/sec
Time = 500sec

On substituting,

Distance between sun and earth = 1x500 =500units

Therefore, in the new unit the distance between the earth and sun is measured as 500 units.
