Question

A number consists of two digits.the digits at the ones place is 3 times the digit at the tens place.if 36 is added to the number the digits are reversed. Find the number.

Let the digit at the tens place be x.
Then,the digit at the units place=3x
So, the number=10x+3x=13x
Now, if we interchange the digits,
thenthe units digit=x and the tens digit=3x
So, the new number=30x+x=31x
A.T.Q.,
13x+36=31x
⇒31x−13x=36
⇒18x=36
⇒x=36/18
⇒x=2
So, the given number=13×2=26
