Let x be a number, then another number will be x + 12.
According to the question, x + (x+12) = 72
$\Rightarrow 2x=72-12\Rightarrow 2x=60\Rightarrow x=30$
Hence, the numbers are 30 and (30 + 12) i.e. 30 and 42.
