Let the number be x. If we substract 27 from x. i.e. (x - 27) and substract x from 73 i.e. (73 - x), we get the same result. Therefore, we get the following equation
x - 27 = 73 - x
⇒x+x=73+27 [transposing (−27) to RHS and (−x) to LHS]⇒2x=100⇒2x2=1002 [dividing both sides by 2]⇒x=50
Hence, the required number is 50.
