Let the number be $x$
If the number is divided by $8$ to give new number
Then the new number be $\frac{x}{8}$
If the new number is divided by $9$ to give $1$
$⟹ \frac{\frac{x}{8}}{9} = 1$
$⟹ \frac{x}{8} = 9$
$⟹ x = 72$
The number is $72$
