A number, x, exceeds another number, y, by 12 and the ratio x:y is 3:2. What is the sum of a third number z and x if z:y is 1:3?

Let x and y be 3a and 2a respectively.
According to the question, 3a - 2a = 12
=> a = 12

So, x = 3×12 = 36 and y = 2×12 = 24

Given- z:y = 1:3
Therefore, z = y3 = 243 = 8

Sum of x and z = 36 + 8 = 44
