A number x is 4 less than three times another number y. If their sum is increased by 5, the result is 25. Find both the numbers

Let x and y be the first number and the second number.

According to the given condition

x=3y-4 1

x+y+5=25 2

Substituting the value of x from equation 1 in the equation 2, we get
3y-4+y+5=25
4y+1=25
4y=25-1
4y=24
y=244=6

x=3y-4=3×6-4

x=18-4=14
Hence, the first number=14

the second Number=6
