Oviducts in females serve as the carriers of the oocyte from the site of their origin (ovaries) to the uterus. Oviducts have 3 layers- mucosa, muscularis and serosa. The mucosal layer consists of ciliated simple columnar cells which function as a “ciliary conveyer belt” for the transport of ovum.
