Given:

Maximum Marks =180

Minimum percentage required to pass =45%

Now,

45% of 180 =180×45%

=180×45100=180×45100=8100100=81

Hence, passing marks =81.

We know that highest marks that can be obtained by a student who fails is 1 mark less than the passing marks.

So, the highest mark obtained by a student who fails =81-1=80.

Hence, the highest mark is 80 that can be obtained by a student who fails.
