Question

A Paper is torn into many pieces and then we want to make a Paper by joining these pieces of paper. If we try to do so, we will not get the Paper in it's original form. Hence, it is said to be an Irreversible action. It is given in the Book.
My question is that if we join these pieces of Paper with the help of gum/glue, is it not possible to make the Paper which was in it's earlier form? In that case, it will be a Reversible action. Is it right?

Solution

Dear Student,
A paper torn into two pieces or several pieces cannot be reversed back to its original form .It is an irreversible.
Although you can stick it up by gum glue , tape or whatever adhesive it cannot come back to its original form.
Hence it is an irreversible process.
Since paper is made from wood and wood is made up of cellulose and lignin so when we tear the paper we are actually breaking the bonds that hold the paper together. so once the bond is broken it cannot be rejoined
