Question

A parallel-plate capacitor having plate area 25cm2 and separation 1.00mm is connected to a battery of 6.0V Calculate the charge flown through the battery. How much work has been done by the battery during the process?

Open in App
Solution

The capacitance of a capacitor is given as,

C=ε0Ad

=8.85×1012×25×1041×103

=2.21×1011F

The charge on the capacitor is given as,

Q=CV

=2.21×1011×6

=1.33×1010C

The work done by the battery is given as,

W=QV

=1.33×1010×6

=8×1010J

Thus, the charge flown by the battery is 1.33×1010C and the work done by the battery during the process is 8×1010J.
