A parallelogram having base 10 cm and height 8 cm is cut along its diagonal into two portions. What is the area of each portion?

The diagonal of a parallelogram divides it into two congruent triangles. Therefore the area of each triangle will be half of the area of the parallelogram.

Area of a parallelogram = base x height
Area of the parallelogram=10×8=80 cm2
Area of each triangle=12×80 cm2=40 cm2
