A part of monthly hostel charges in a college are fixed and the remaining depends on the number of days one has taken food in the mess.when a student A takes food for 25 days , he has to pay 3500 as hostel charges whereas student B who takes food for 28 days , pays 3800 as hostel charges. find the fixed charges and the cost of the food per day.

i) Let the fixed monthly hostel charges be $Rs.x$
and the cost of food per day taken from the mess be $y$ As per the given condition,
$x+25y=3500$ ...(1)
$x+28y=3800$ ...(2)
Subtracting eq(1) from eq (2), we get
$3y=300$
$y=100$
Substitute
$y=100$
in eq (1), we get
$x+25\left(100\right)=3500$
$x+2500=3500$
$x=1000$ So, the fixed monthly hostel charge is $Rs.2500$
and the cost of food per day is $Rs.$ $100$
