Question

A particle begins to move with a tangential acceleration of constant magnitude 0.6m/s2 in a circular path. If it slips when its total acceleration becomes 1m/s2, then the angle through which it would have turned before it starts to slip is abradian. Find(ab).

Solution

Find centripetal acceleration

Formula used: ac=ω2r,at=αr

Given: α=1 ms2, at=0.6 m/s2

ω2ω2o=2αθ

ω2=2αθ

(particle starts from rest)

ac=ω2r

=2αθr=2atθ

Find angular displacement

Formula used: a=a2c+a2t

1=(2×0.6×θ)2+(0.6)2

10.36=(1.2θ)2

θ=0.81.2=23rad

a=2 and b=3

so ab=6

Final answer: 6
