The correct option is D An ellipse in x-y plane
Let equation of the particle moving along y axis y=A1sin(wt)
sinwt=yA1 ........(1)
Now equation of the particle moving along x axis x=A2sin(wt+ϕ)
Given : ϕ=π2
Thus x=A2sin(wt+π2)=A2cos(wt)
coswt=xA2 ............(2)
Squaring and adding (1) and (2), sin2wt+cos2wt=y2A21+x2A22
y2A21+x2A22=1 which is an equation of an ellipse.
