A particle is moving along x-axis. Initially it is located 5m left of origin and it is moving away from the origin and slowing down. In this coordinate system, what are the signs of the initial velocity and acceleration.

Particle is initially at (-5,0) and moving away from it. Therefore particle is moving in -X direction and velocity consequently is negative. However, particle is DECELERATING in -X direction and therefore acceleration is positive.
