Question

A particle is moving in a circular path of radius, 'r'. What will its displacement be after half a circle is completed?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given and to find

The particle is moving with a radius 'r' and we need to find its displacement be after half a circle is completed.

Step 2: Finding displacement be after half a circle is completed

  1. The shortest distance between an object's initial and final points on its path is its displacement.
  2. Once the particle has covered half of the circle, the displacement may be simply calculated by measuring the distance between the beginning and final points.

According to the diagram, AB=OA+OB=r+r=2r [Because, OA=randOB=r]

Then, the displacement after completing a half-circle is 2r.
