$u = 20 m / s - 60 = 20 t - \frac{1}{2} g t^{2} = 20 t - 5 t^{2} (from second equation of motion) \Rightarrow t^{2} - 4 t - 12 = 0 \Rightarrow t = 6, - 2 t = 6 i s t h e t i m e t i l l t h e s t o n e r e a c h e s g r o u n d . d i s t a n c e c o v e r e d = 60 + 2 \times \frac{u^{2}}{2 g} = 60 + 40 = 100 a v e r a g e s p e e d = \frac{100}{6} = \frac{50}{3} m / s$
