Question

A particle is thrown vertically upwards reaches the highest point in 4 seconds . Calculate the Initial speed of throw and maximuum height reached.

Open in App
Solution

Time taken(t)= 4 seconds
at highest point velocity is 0
so final velocity(v) = 0
acceleration due to gravity(g)= -9.8
negative because force is in opposite direction
we need to find initial velocity(u)
we know v=u+at
on substituting values
0=u+9.8*4
so u = 9.8*5 = 39.2 m/s

distance(s)= ut+1/2at^{2}
so,
s=4*39.2 - 1/2*9.8*4*4
s=156.8 - 78.4
S = 78.4 m
