Question

A particle of mass m is fixed to one end of a massless spring of spring constant k and natural length ll0 . The system is rotated about the other end of the spring with an angular velocity w , in gravity free space . What is the final length if spring ,?

Solution

Let x= increase in lenght of string

Then the particle moves along the circular path.of radius (l+x)

and the spring force =kx=centripatal force

Therefore mω²(l+x)=kx

or x=mω²(l+x)/k-mω²
