A particle starts from rest, accelerates at 2 m/s2 for 10 s and then goes with constant speed for 30 s and then decelerates at 4 m/s2 till it stops. What is the distance travelled by it?

The correct option is A 750 m
Applying 2nd equation of motion for 1st two parts
Part I: Constant acceleration
S1=u1t+12a1t2
=0+12(2)(10)2
=100 m

Part II: Uniform motion
S2=u2t+12a2t2
=u2(30)
To find u2, we will use 1st equation of motion from the beginning to end of 1st part,
v=u+at
v=0+(2)(10)
v=u2=20 m/s
Now, S2=(20)(30)=600 m

Applying 3rd equation of motion for the third part,
v23u23=2aS3
Here, v3=0 and u3=v2=20 m/s
0(20)2=2(4)(S3)
400=8S3
S3=50 m

S1+S2+S3=100+600+50=750 m
