A particle starts moving from point A, along a rectangular plot via the path shown. If the time taken to reach the point E (where E is midpoint of D and C) be 0.5 s, then find the average speed and average velocity of the particle.

Distance $=$ 1= + 12 + 5 $=$ 27 m
Displacement $=$ straight path from A to E
$=\sqrt{5^2+{12}^2}=13m$
Average speed
$=\frac{distance}{time}=\frac{27}{0.5}=54m{s}^{-1}$
Average velocity $=\frac{displacement}{time}$
$==\frac{13}{0.5}=26m{s}^{-1}$
