Given : $v_{1} = 8 m / s$ $v_{2} = 2 m / s$
Average velocity of the object when it travels the equal distance is given by $V_{a v g} = \frac{2 v_{1} v_{2}}{v_{1} + v_{2}}$
$⟹ V_{a v g} = \frac{2 \times 8 \times 2}{8 + 2} = 3.2 m / s$
