Let the numbers of pens x & number of notebooks y.

11x + 13y = 1000

$x equals fraction numerator left parenthesis 1001 minus 11 y right parenthesis minus 1 minus 2 y over denominator 11 end fraction$

y = {5, 16, 27, 38, 49, 60, 71}

Total seven ways.
Answer: 7
