Question

A person on a pier observes a set of incoming waves that have a sinusoidal form with a distance of 1.6 m between the crests. If the wave lapse against the pier every 4 s, what are:

(a) the frequency?

Solution

Step 1- Given data

T=4seconds,wavelength λ=1.6m.

where T is the time period, and f is the frequency.

Step 2- Finding the frequency of the wave.

Formula for frequency of a wave is-

f=1T

f=1T=14=0.25Hz.

Thus, the frequency of the wave is 0.25Hz.
