let the person had money in the beginning = x

money spent on clothes = 1/3 * x = x/3
money remained = x - x/3 = 2x/3

money spent on food = 1/5 * 2x/3 = 2x/15
money remaines after food = 2x/3 - 2x/15 = 8x/15

money spent on travel = 1/4 * 8x/15 = 2x/15
money remained after travel = 8x/15 - 2x/15 = 2x/5

by question 2x/5 = 400
or 2x = 2000
x = 1000 Ans.
