A photocopier is a machine that makes paper copies of documents and other visual images quickly and cheaply. Most current photocopiers use a technology in which toner particles are positively charged and then transfer them onto paper in the form of an image/letters.
What charge should the paper possess for this process to happen?
both b and c
In accordance to the question, the toner particles are positively charged. So, for positive charge to stick on paper the paper has to be negatively charged. It can be neutral as well! Shocked?
Remember induction? The positively charged toner particles will induce negative charge on paper and hence stick to it.
Still got a problem? Check out this diagrammatic explanation.
On bringing the toner particles near paper
Paper gets a negative charge on that part of the surface which is nearer to the toner particles due to induction which makes toner particles stick to it.
