Length of picture = 40 cm
Breadth of picture = 20 cm
$\therefore$ Area of picture = $(40\times 20)c{m}^2$
= 800 $c{m}^2$
Length of picture with frame
=$40cm+2\times 2cm$ = 44 cm.
Breadth of picture with frame
=$20cm+2\times 2cm$
=24 cm
$\therefore$ Area of the picture with frame
=$44cm\times 24cm$
=$1056c{m}^2$
$therefore$ Area of the frame = Area of the picture with frame - Area of picture
=$1056c{m}^2-800c{m}^2$
=$256c{m}^2$
Hence, area of the picture is 800 $c{m}^2$ and area of the frame is $256c{m}^2$
