We know that, perimeter of square$=4\times \mathrm{side}$

Here, length of the string is $40\text{cm}$ which means it is the perimeter of the square .

So,

$$\begin{gathered} \Rightarrow 40=4\times \mathrm{side} \\ \Rightarrow \mathrm{side}=\frac{40}{4}=10\mathrm{cm} \end{gathered}$$

Hence, each side of string is $10\text{cm}$ .
