Question

A piece of copper and another of germanium are cooled from room temperature to 100 K. What will happen to their conductivities? Explain

Open in App
Solution

Germanium has negative temperature coefficient, so its resistance will increase when cooled, i.e., its conductivity will decrease. On the other hand, copper has positive temperature coefficient of resistance, so its conductivity will increase when it is cooled down.
