Question

A piece of gold is cut into two halves. If the density of gold before cutting is 'd', then the density of each piece after cutting is d/2. Is the given statement True/False? Explain.

Solution

Density is the ratio of mass and volume. When a piece of gold is cut into two halves, the mass of each piece becomes half and the volume each piece becomes half. But the ratio of mass and volume remains same. Thus, the density of each piece is same as before cutting. Hence, the given statement is false.
