A piece of ice floating in a glass of water melts but the level of water in the glass does not change. Explain this phenomenon.

  1. When a body floats, the weight of the water displaced by the body is equal to the weight of the body.
  2. So, when the ice melts and becomes water, its weight doesn't change.
  3. Hence, there won't be any change in the level of water.
