The correct option is A 2(21)m2

Let the side of pentagon = x cm
Due to symmetry the right angled triangle cut out at corner must be isosceles right angled triangle.
x2=y2+y2
or x=2y
As the side of square = 1 cm
x+2y=1
2y+2y=1y=12(2+1)m
Area of triangle =12×y×=12y2=12=12(2+1)2
=14.1(2+1)2sq.m
Area of 4 triangles =1(2+1)2
Area of octagon = Area of square - Area of 4 triangles
=11(2+1)2=(1+12+1)(112+1)=2(2+1)
Rationalising 2(21)(2+1)(21)=2(21)
