Solution

Length of the piece of red ribbon = 2 m 20 cm
= 200 cm + 20 cm = 220 cm

Half of this red ribbon = 220 cm ÷ 2 = 110 cm

Hence, 110 cm of red ribbon has been joined with blue ribbon.

Total length of ribbons joined in this manner = 4 m 25 cm
= 400 cm + 25 cm
= 425 cm

We need to remove part of the red ribbon from 425 cm to get the length of the blue ribbon.

Length of the blue ribbon = 425 cm - 110 cm = 315 cm
= 300 cm + 15 cm
= 3 m 15 cm
