Solution

Answer provided by our Subject Expert was incorrect. The correct answer is as follows.

SONAR = SOund Navigation And Ranging
Speed of sonar in water = 1450 m/s ( usually given in the question )

We are given that sound wave returns in 2.32 seconds after hitting the top of the ship.
One way journey will be covered in 2.32 / 2 = 1.16 s

In 1.16 s the SONAR can travel (1.16*1450 )= 1682m
Given that seabed is at 1700m , So the height of Ship will be (1700-1682)= 18m

Note : SONAR is just a sound wave and will not be affected by gravity neither will have any initial or final velocity as stated by our expert.
