volume of pit $= 14 m^{3}$

volume $= l \times b \times h$

$14 = 5 \times 3.5 \times h$

$∴ h = \frac{14}{5 \times 3.5} = 0.8 m$

$∴$ height of the pit $= 0.8 m$
