Question

A plank with a box on it at one end is gradually raised about the other end. As the angle of inclination with the horizontal reaches 300 the box starts to slip and slides 4.0 m down the plank in 4.0s. Solution

Refer image,

θ = Angle of friction

tanθ=FR

tanθ=us...........(1)

FR=us

θ=tan1(us) (From (1))

us=tan30=13=0.6

s=ut+12at2

a=g(sinθukcosθ)

u=12g(sin30ukcos30)u2

53uk=4.5uk=0.51

us=0.6 and uk=0.51
