Question

A plant virus is found to consist of uniform cylindrical particles 150˙A in diameter and 5000˙A long. The specific volume of the virus is 0.75cm3/g. If the virus is considered to be a single particle and its molar mass is 7.09×10n, then the value of n is:

Solution

Volume of virus =πr2l
=227×1502×1502×1016×5000×108 =0.884×1016cm3
Mass of one virus =0.884×10160.75g =1.178×1016g
Molar mass of virus =1.178×1016×6.02×1023 =7.09×107
So, value of n is 7.
