Radius of the semicircle, $r = \frac{24.5}{2} = 12.25 m$

It is given that the playground has a shape of a rectangle, with two semicircles on its smaller sides as diameter, added to its outside. So,

Area of the playground = Area of rectangle + 2 $\times$ Area of semi-circle

$= 36 \times 24.5 + 2 \times π \times \frac{{12.25}^{2}}{2}$

$= 882 + 471.625 = 1353.625 m^{2}$
