The initial momentum is given as mass times the initial velocity.

Since the football is at rest initially, the initial velocity is zero.

⇒ pi = m x vi = 0.75 x 0 = 0 kg m/s

The final momentum of the football,

pf = m x vf = 0.75 x 12 = 9 kg m/s

From Newton’s second law, the force applied is equal to the rate of change of momentum.

⇒ F = 450 N
