Question

A point is moves on xy plane. If the sum of the distance from two mutual perpendicular lines is 5 then area under it is

Open in App
Solution

Let us assume that mutually perpendicular axis as the X and Y axes of the cartesian coordinate..

So basically your question boils down to an equation .

x+y=5

A Straight does not have any area enclosed..But the area with perpendicular axes is a right angled triangle with base 5 and height 5..

So area is (5x5)/2 = 12.5 units sq.

Since locus exists in all 4 quadrants of the axes .. The answer is

12.5 x 4 = 50 units sq.
