Question

A point lies on x-axis at a distance of 9 units from y-axis. What are its coordinates? What will be the coordinates of a point if it lies on y-axis at a distance of -9 units from x-axis?

Solution

(1)
Point on x axis and lies 9 units away from y axis.

Here y coordinate is 0, because the point is on x axis.
Now it's 9 units away from y axis.So the x coordinate is clearly 9.
Therefore the point is
(x,y) =(9,0)

(2)
Point on y axis and lies -9 units away from x axis.

Here point lies on y axis.So x coordinate is 0.
And it's -9 units away from x axis.
So it's y coordinate is -9.
Therefore the point is
(x,y) =(0,-9)

You can plot this on graph for better understanding.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
