Solution

The correct option is D 105 m/s
Given:

Velocity of police van w.r.t. ground is
vpg=30×518=253 m/s

Muzzle speed of the bullet is
vb=150 ms1

So, speed of the bullet w.r.t ground will be

vbg=(150+25/3) ms1

Velocity of thief's car w.r.t. ground is
vtg=192×518=1603 m/s

relative velocity of the bullet w.r.t. the thief's car is given by

vbt=vbgvtg=150+2531603=1501353

vbt=105 m/s

Hence, (d) is the correct answer.

Why this question?Velocity of bullet with respect to ground = Velocity of bullet with respect to gun + velocity of gun with respect to ground
