Let the resistance per unit length of potentiometer wire be r and EMF of battery connected across it's length is E.
the initially the resistance = 4r
let the balancing length initially, be l1=1m
E1=I1r×l1

where[I1(4r)=E]
final resistance = 5r
let the balancing length =l2
then E2=I2×r×l2

where [I2(5r)=E]
E1E2=I1l1I2l2
as [E1=E2]
I2l2=I1l1
l2=×1
l2=5/4=1.25m
