Question

A power transmission line feeds input at 2200 V to a step-down transformer with its primary windings having 3000 turns. find the number of turns in the secondary to get the power input at 220 V.

Solution

Given,

Primary voltage, V1=2200

No. of turns in Primary winding, N1=3000

Secondary voltage, V2=220

It is asked to find out the number of turns in the secondary winding.

We have

N1N2=V1V2

Substituting the values in the above equation we get,

3000N2=2200220

By solving the equation we get,

3000N2=101

10N2=3000

N2=300010=300

Hence the number of turns in secondary winding is 300
